UK aviation can deliver the Clean growth strategy without the need for artificial limits says Sustainable Aviation

Responding to the Committee on Climate Change’s assessment of the Government’s Clean Growth Strategy, Chair of Sustainable Aviation, Neil Robinson said: “We welcome the Committee’s report, however we do not agree there is a need to artificially limit people’s ability to fly.

“Our Carbon Road-Map shows how we can return to 2005 levels through technology, operational efficiency improvements and the use of sustainable biofuels. We are already witnessing the rate of growth in passenger numbers from growth in emissions being disconnected. Our sixth Progress Report, published at the end of 2017, sets out what has been achieved.

And UK airlines have taken a leading role in securing global progress to establish a market-based measure for dealing with emissions, enabling our goal of carbon neutral growth from 2020.

We recognise there is more to do but we believe this is best achieved through innovative technologies, modernising our airspace, and the use of sustainable aviation fuels. The UK is at the forefront of efforts to deliver a sustainable future for aviation, the Government’s Aviation Strategy must do all it can to support these efforts.”

Sustainable Aviation is a coalition of UK airlines, airports, aerospace manufacturers and the air traffic service provider, which works to deliver cleaner, quieter, smarter flying. It acts as a long term strategy which sets out the collective approach of UK aviation to tackling the challenge of ensuring a sustainable future for the UK aviation industry.

Launched in 2005, it is a world first, bringing together major UK airlines, airports, manufacturers and air navigation service providers towards a collective sustainability goal.
